Are there any upfront recruiting or contractual costs?
We require an initial deposit of $500 that will be applied as a credit to your first invoice once you make a hire. If you decide not to move forward, your deposit will be refunded completely.
How is the trial period no-risk?
We make sure to start each engagement with a trial period of up to two weeks. This means that you have time to help ensure the engagement will be successful. If you’re completely satisfied with the results, we’ll bill you for the time and continue the engagement for as long as you’d like. If you’re not completely satisfied, you won’t be billed. From there, we can either part ways, or we can provide you with another contributor who may be a better fit and with whom we will begin a second, no-risk trial.
What happens if I’m not satisfied with a Bestow contributor?
We allow our clients to begin a trial period with up to three contributors from our network per position. While we rigorously screen all applicants to ensure talent and intelligence, we understand that not every person will be a perfect fit for every company. For this reason, we allow our clients to work with multiple contributors for each position before they decide on a candidate with whom they are confident and comfortable.
How is Bestow different?

In a typical Bestow engagement, in almost all cases we’ll introduce you to candidates within 24 hours, and 90% of our clients hire the first candidate we introduce.These aren’t just any candidates either. At Bestow, we thoroughly screen our contributors (please see “Testing & Screening” below) to ensure we only supply contributors of the highest caliber. Of the more than 100,000 people who apply to join the Bestow network each year, we accept fewer than 3%. You’ll work with contributors in design, technology, or business (never generalized recruiters or HR reps) who hand-select the right match for you from our network.
Are English skills ever an issue when working with a Bestow contributor?
No. Each and every Bestow contributor writes and speaks fluent English. In fact, before we invite candidates to tackle our rigorous domain-specific tests, we conduct lengthy interviews to ensure they have a high level of proficiency in English and have personalities well-suited to working with western technical teams.
How does your screening process ensure quality candidates that meet our requirements?
We screen for communication skills, personality, domain-specific knowledge, and a high level of professionalism. Approximately 3% of applicants pass the screening process.Our process includes a variety of ways to determine skill and proficiency, including portfolio reviews, technical coding challenges, user or market research, business cases, project management backlog grooming, formal assessments, as well as live problem-solving sessions as appropriate to the candidate and vertical.We match all candidates with senior Bestow domain contributors for each and every interview, and all applicants complete a test project to demonstrate live proficiency with a project similar to what they would work on in a typical engagement.
Where are your contributors located?
Currently, we have contributors in over 100 countries, most being located in the Americas and Europe.
Where do Bestow contributors work?
The vast majority work remotely from their home office or a co-working space.
Can I bring Bestow contributors on-site?
In practice, there have only been a few instances where clients have felt it absolutely necessary to bring a Bestow contributor physically on-site. If this truly is a requirement, we can work with you to coordinate relocating an individual or team to your location for a specified period of time
If there isn’t any in-network resource currently available to fulfill the requirements of my request, how long could I expect to wait to work with a new candidate?
It takes us one to three weeks to locate, fully screen, and work with every contributor before we feel confident enough to admit them to our network and introduce them to a client. We understand your need for expediency, but we also understand the even greater need for quality. At Bestow, even if we have an extremely promising prospective candidate, we will not place them until we are 100% confident in their ability. Bestow’s stringent screening process is the most important reason we’re able to maintain a network of the highest caliber talent.
What happens if a Bestow contributor is unavailable for the days or times they are scheduled to work with me?
Bestow goes to every possible length to ensure that this doesn’t happen. At Bestow, we completely understand dependability is of the utmost importance. We take measures to ensure that availability and reliability is a top priority for our contributor's. However, in the extremely unlikely circumstance that such a situation arises, Bestow will credit back the time billed to the client.
Can I hire a full-time worker from Bestow and bring him/her into our company?
For the most part, yes. We will work with you to fully understand your specific requirements so that we can establish a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Do you offer services such as screening, vetting, and testing to help us hire employees outside of the Bestow network?
While we currently do not supply these services, we plan on offering them in the future.
Who owns the legal rights to the work created by a Bestow contributor?
The client. Bestow’s only business is connecting world-class contributors to the clients who want to work with them - not intellectual property. Our contracts provide that all work created by a Bestow contributor is the property of the client, not Bestow.
How do we ensure that our IP is protected?
Bestow enters into talent agreements with every member of the talent network. Through these agreements, Bestow obtains exclusive ownership of the work created by the Bestow talent that works with you. We then provide you with the intellectual property for the work that the Bestow talent creates for you under our client agreement. This clean, simple, pass-through arrangement has worked well for our clients for many years. However, if you would like the contributor to enter into a direct agreement with you to effect the direct transfer of IP property, we can work with you to ensure that your needs are met.
How much does Bestow cost?
Pricing can vary across several factors. We will work with you to find the right price point for your subscription. The base membership is about 500USD a year.

Bestow talent contribution level
Every Upstack engineer is senior level and verified to have at least 3 years of documented experience in their specific language of contribution. We don’t offer junior or mid-level engineers (though our cost for a senior level is very comparable) as we feel that our clients should benefit from the contribution level of a senior engineer, at a very sustainable cost. On top of the technical interviews, which all Upstack developers have to pass, we also ensure that our talent has a high level of spoken and written English, along with the necessary soft skills that really makes our talent stand out from other services similar to ours. In a nutshell, we strive to find excellent talent, which can easily fit within your organisation on all levels, making our process one of the most streamlined in the industry.

Bestow and standard development shops - differences
We offer something very different than what you would get from a development shop. A typical development shop will offer you a project estimate and then outsource your project to a team of engineers that may not stay the same throughout the duration of the project. Additionally, you may only have limited or zero direct contact with your team instead relying on a single contact person to provide updates.With Upstack, you get a dedicated engineer who is interacts with your team just in the same way an in-house team member would. You have direct contact with them and they are working exclusively for your company - all for a weekly flat rate. On top of that, we offer dedicated Success Services, which come along with any hire, services which ensure a smooth working collaboration.

From a client perspective, the Upstack invoicing procedure is a very simple and straightforward one. When your project with Upstack starts, you are benefiting from our 2 week trial period. Once the trial has passed successfully you will receive your first invoice from Upstack. Based on the fact that the first invoice is sent after 2 weeks (only when a trial is successful), after that point Upstack sends invoices every 2 weeks for the previous 2 weeks (10 days) of work done by your developer/s. Each invoice consists of 10 work days and you will not be charged for any holidays or sick days. Upstack also advises all our clients that the easiest way of paying invoices is through credit card, which can be attached to your client account, for quick payments.
Invoices are generated automatically every 2 weeks, and will be emailed to you. The invoices are also available in the Upstack client portal. All invoices are processed 2 days after they have been sent. This gives our clients the chance to review invoices sent by us, and make sure that everything is in orded. While we recommend using a credit card, which can be attached to your account, as it is the quickest payment method, on request we also handle check, wire and ACH.
